Queen Street Mill Textile Museum
Step back in time at Clayton Hall Living History Museum. The Grade II*, 15th Century Hall is a rare example of a moated manor house. We have six Victorian rooms with dressing up costumes and hands-on activities for visitors of all ages to experience what life was like in the late 1800s.
Spitfire Visitor Centre
2023 Season. We are Open to the Public on SATURDAY’s only. Our season runs from April to October inclusive. Open 10am – 4pm Saturday. Our WW2 Hangar will take you back in time to World War Two. Hangar 42 was the first Bellman Hangar erected at RAF Squires Gate, in May 1939, hangaring Hawker Hurricanes and Boulton Paul Defiants
Greater Manchester Police Museum
Come and visit our 1879 Police Station, complete with original cells & charge office! Upstairs we have a 1895 Magistrates Court as well displays of equipment, vehicles and evidence and on the ground floor. We are open every Tuesday for drop in visits, and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday by appointment for group visits. During the school holidays we also aim to open on Thursdays.
Solway Aviation Museum
The Museum is open from Easter until the last weekend in October on a Friday & Saturday. We are also open on the Bank Holiday Mondays. We have some exciting new exhibits demonstrating the close ties that existed between the RAF and the City of Carlisle.
Ribble Steam Railway
Visit the Ribble Steam Railway for heritage train rides along our line. The three mile return trip includes crossing the dock swing bridge (a unique feature on our line) and then along the bank of the River Ribble, giving interesting views of the City of Preston.
Liverpool Cathedral
Liverpool Cathedral is more than an iconic building. It’s a vibrant, active place that the people of the city, regions and world encounter in many ways. Led by our Dean we have reflected on our mission and ministry.
Norton Priory Museum
Norton Priory Museum & Gardens, situated on the edge of Runcorn, is one of Cheshire’s hidden gems. Once home to a medieval church, this is the most excavated monastic site in Europe.
Visitors can explore the 12th century undercroft with beautiful vaulted ceiling and the priory ruins showing the layout of the medieval buildings. Norton Priory was founded in 1134, and achieved mitred abbey status in 1391. Two key families have links to the site: the Dutton family and the Brooke family.
Lakeland Motor Museum
Head down memory lane to the Lakeland Motor Museum and feast your eyes on a unique collection of 30,000 exhibits. That includes 140 classic cars and motorbikes, all carefully assembled over 50 years. Nestled in the scenic Leven Valley and open seven days a week, the Museum isn’t just about cars. The entire collection is presented in a social context, with a host of rarities to awaken some special motoring memories.
World Museum
It all started way back in 1851 when the 13th Earl of Derby donated his enormous natural history collection to the town of Liverpool. This was the beginnings of what would one day become World Museum.
Fast forward over 160 years and the creation of 6 more museums and galleries, Liverpool now has one of the largest collections of museums and galleries.
The World Cultures Gallery
The World Cultures gallery showcases World Museum’s huge collections from Africa, The Americas, Asia and Oceania. Featuring more than 1,600 objects, the gallery explores the exchange of ideas and objects between Europe and the many cultures represented in the displays.

The Walker Art Gallery
The Walker Art Gallery is the national gallery of the North. For 130 years it has housed Liverpool’s most outstanding art collection. Many of the gallery’s most important works have been on display in the city for nearly 200 years.
The history of the gallery and its collection reflects the people of Liverpool’s commitment to and appreciation of the arts. It also illustrates the generosity of the city’s leaders in ensuring public access to such works.
Manchester Art Gallery
A publicly owned art gallery opened in 1824, Manchester Art Gallery fills three buildings with both domestic and international art. The collection includes works by French Impressionist Pierre Adolphe Valette, “The Picnic” by Wynford Dewhurst, and a Cezanne that depicts scenes from Manchester painted during his stay in the city.
William Burges’ reformist furniture design as well as a collection of silver and glassware also grace the gallery rooms.
Admission to the gallery is free.

World Heritage Sites
Jodrell Bank is one of the world’s leading radio astronomy observatories.
Peover Hall and Gardens – A fully-furnished, Elizabethan manor-house with Carolean stables and gardens. It was General Patton’s 3rd Army Headquarters for their first 6 month stay in Britain during World War II.
Capesthorne Hall – set in 100 acres of picturesque Cheshire parkland, has been touched by nearly 1,000 years of English history – Roman legions passed across it, titled Norman families hunted on it and, during the Civil War, a Royalist ancestress helped Charles II to escape after the Battle of Worcester.
Hadrian’s Wall – stretches 70 miles across the north of England from Cumbrian Roman coastal defences at Ravenglass to Wallsend on the east coast. Dating back as early as 112 AD, the route today encompasses archaeological sites, spectacular landscapes, rare wildlife, complete solitude and vibrant cities.
Askham Hall – A stunning grade 1 listed Pele Tower dating back to the 13th century, Askham Hall has been transformed from a stately family abode into a unique and contemporary stylish retreat and restaurant. A luxurious, intimate, unpretentious home from home awaits.
